While they struggled to find the right person to man the second cornerback spot last season, once they found their guy, the defense clamped down and excelled. At safety, the Bills are set in terms of their starting unit, but depth players will find themselves in a fierce competition for inclusion on the final roster. Today, we look at one of those depth players, a player brought over to Buffalo from the Carolina Panthers who has been solid in a pinch. Here is our latest edition of “90 players in 90 days.”Name: Dean MarloweNumber: 31Position: SHeight/Weight: 6’1” 208 lbs. Age: 26 (27 on 7/25/19)Experience/Draft: 3; signed with Carolina as UDFA following 2015 NFL DraftCollege: James MadisonAcquired: Signed to Bills’ practice squad 12/17/17; signed reserve/future deal on 1/8/18.Financial situation (per Spotrac): Marlowe is in the final year of his two-year contract signed in 2018. The total value of the deal is $1,200 Womens Dawson Knox Jersey ,000, of which none is guaranteed. Marlowe’s cap number for 2019 is $645,000 if he makes the roster.2018 Recap: Marlowe looked like he could be the fourth safety coming out of the preseason, but he was beaten out by rookie Siran Neal and subsequently waived. After passing through waivers, Marlowe signed with Buffalo’s practice squad, and he was called into action for the Bills’ Week 5 tilt against the Tennessee Titans. He played every defensive snap in that game, 54 in total, helping the Bills’ defense clamp down in earning a gritty 13-12 victory. He had four tackles and a pass breakup in the game. Following the game, he was waived and re-signed to the practice squad, where he remained until December 12. He next appeared in Buffalo’s season finale Jaquan Johnson Jersey Draft , playing only on special teams in the team’s blowout victory over the Miami Dolphins.Positional outlook: Marlowe once again finds himself in a tough spot, as starters Jordan Poyer and Micah Hyde are set for the third straight year. Veteran backup Rafael Bush is joined by Neal, who enters his second year, and fifth-round pick Jaquan Johnson. The team also signed undrafted free agent Abraham Wallace.2019 Offseason: Marlowe agreed to participate in teammate Micah Hyde’s charity softball game earlier this spring. (The game is in June.) Otherwise, little has been written about him.2019 Season outlook: It doesn’t look good for Marlowe, who will probably be left off the roster in favor of the two young players Buffalo has drafted over the last two seasons. He’s clearly behind the three veterans in Hyde, Poyer, and Bush, and whether Buffalo chooses to go with four or five safeties, the numbers just aren’t in his favor. A return to the practice squad isn’t out of the question Jaquan Johnson NFL Jersey , but Marlowe also may choose to move on if he is released again. The Buffalo Bills could not get any footing on offense, defense, or special teams Sunday. They were beaten soundly by a vulnerable New England Patriots team in all three phases. With one game left in the season, the coaching staff has a lot of evaluating to do as they enter Week 17.Here are our five takeaways from the game:Bills were out-coachedThe Patriots kept attacking Buffalo’s inexperienced linebackers by keeping their heavy units on the field. They were able to run the ball down the Bills’ collective throats and influence the need for Lorenzo Alexander to cover Julian Edelman. On defense, the Patriots put Pro Bowler Stephon Gilmore on Robert Foster and then dared Josh Allen to pass the ball. He had opportunities but New England made the Bills make plays—and so many drops doomed the Bills.Bills rushing defense remains a concernAfter their second touchdown, the Patriots were averaging 8.4 yards per rush while Tom Brady was having a pedestrian day. New England had 179 yards rushing before halftime. With 20 minutes left in the game, New England already had passed the Indianapolis Colts for most rushing yards against the Bills in a game this season. With 273 yards on the ground, it was tied for the seventh-most allowed since 2000. Missed tackles, the defensive line not settling into their lanes, and sub-par linebacker play all led to the problem. In four games against New England Jaquan Johnson NFL Draft , Sean McDermott’s defense has allowed more than 190 yards on the ground three times. They entered the game allowing only 105 yards per game but they have had some hiccups this year.Josh Allen didn’t play well*Bill Belichick* is pretty darn good at home against rookie quarterbacks. It was a story line going into this week, but it came true in spades. Belichick spied Allen with a cornerback and other defensive backs on multiple plays. They converted 9% of their third downs. Allen threw two picks and was 14-for-33 for just 148 yards. He had five rushes for 30 yards and was sacked a few times. Allen had several very good passes, for sure, and he was able to settle in more as the game wore on, but they couldn’t get anything going when it mattered.Convert some freaking turnoversThe Bills forced three turnovers in Patriots territory and were only able to convert three points. The opening drive of the third quarter got the Bills on the board, down 14-3, but the Bills turned it over on downs in the second quarter and Stephen Hauschka bounced off the crossbar from 43 yards out in the first quarter. Not exactly how you defeat the Patriots.Special teams (again)Holy cow. That onside kick was pathetic. The Patriots blocked an extra point (kind of but not really). It was abysmal and it’s not the first time we’ve called for coordinator Danny Crossman to be fired. Let’s do it again anyway: Danny Crossman should be fired.Send your questions to me for the Buffalo Rumblings Mailbag: 716-508-0405. It was a talk-able Bills game, for sure.
