Easy fixes to a common problem
There are several possible reasons why your refrigerator may not keep food and drinks cold. But before we get into the more complex fixes, let's first look at the simplest ones.
1. Make sure that the refrigerator is not disconnected from the electrical outlet. Sometimes the plug can be partially removed from the socket when pushing in the refrigerator. Maybe a family pet snapped the rope. The refrigerator light should be on when you open the door. If not, then either your lamp is blown out or the plug is not OK.
2. Check the thermostat to ensure that it has not been accidentally turned off.
3. Check the holes in the back of the freezer compartment. Were they banned with big boxes of ice cream or pizza? These vents must be clean in order for cool air to circulate throughout the entire freezer / fridge unit.

4. If you live in a household with pets, a lot of pet hair can build up in front of files under and behind the fridge. Clogged files can cause poor cooling, so clean your files well.
5. Check to make sure nothing is stuck in the condenser fan and is rotating freely. If your fridge is a newer model, it may not have a fan but it is wrapped in the back. For older models, unplug the refrigerator and pull it out. Clean the condenser fan blades and rotate the fan with your fingers to see if it is moving freely or is stuck. Plug in the refrigerator again and see if the fan is running while the compressor is running. If the fan is not working, continue reading to see how to replace the fan. |
